Society and shelter - hand in hand
In the year 2000 the Tierschutzkreis Segeberg e.V. became the Tierschutzverein Westerwohld e.V. In 2006, a new animal shelter was built in Kirchweg 124e, which offers space for up to 9 - 14 dogs and about 30 cats, as well as many small animals and birds. In addition, there are quarantine stations for sick animals, puppies and lost and found animals. The shelter currently has 4 permanent employees. In addition, since 2009 we have trained in our shelter and since 2016, we employ a volunteer of the ecological federal voluntary service.
The shelter is responsible for lost and found animals from the municipalities of Norderstedt, Henstedt-Ulzburg, Kaltenkirchen, Ellerau, Kaltenkirchen-Land and Amt Kisdorf.
These communities have joined together in the Zweckverband Fundtiere Segeberg-West to create a common shelter for lost and found animals. Our association has been running this shelter in Kirchweg since the beginning. We are a member of the German Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Deutschen Tierschutzbund).
We are recognized as a non-profit association and are therefore entitled to issue tax-deductible donation receipts.
Animal welfare needs a lot of helpers, whether small or large, whether passive (i.e., financial support) or active.
